There are several major companies active in this field in Germany. This article introduces three major manufacturers: Siemens Healthineers AG, Analytik Jena AG and Sartorius AG.
1. Siemens Healthineers AG
Siemens Healthineers AG is a global leader in the field of medical technology and a major player in the in-vitro diagnostics market. Update 2024: It was recently reported that Siemens Healthineers is considering a spin-off of the important In Vitro Diagnostics business unit.
2. Analytik Jena AG
Analytik Jena AG, headquartered in Jena, Thuringia, is another important player in the field of in-vitro diagnostics in Germany. The company, which is part of the Endress+Hauser Group, employs around 1,300 people and is active in over 120 countries. Analytik Jena is known for its high-quality laboratory instruments and solutions, which are used in clinical diagnostics as well as in life science and environmental analysis.
One of Analytik Jena’s outstanding products in the field of in-vitro diagnostics is the Biometra TAdvanced thermal cycler, a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) device that is indispensable in many molecular diagnostic applications. In addition, the company also offers a wide range of products for sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction and analysis, which are used in modern laboratories worldwide.
The Jena site plays a central role for the company, as both research and development and production are concentrated here. The combination of innovative technology and high manufacturing quality has made Analytik Jena a respected name in the global diagnostics industry.
3. Sartorius AG
Sartorius AG, headquartered in Göttingen, Lower Saxony, is an international company specialising in the development and manufacture of laboratory and process technology. Although Sartorius is primarily known for its biotechnology and pharmaceutical solutions, the company also plays an important role in the field of in-vitro diagnostics.
Sartorius’ products in the IVD sector include high-precision filter and membrane systems as well as laboratory balances, which are indispensable in sample preparation and analysis. These products contribute to quality assurance and reproducibility in laboratory processes and are used worldwide in diagnostics.
With around 15,000 employees worldwide and a broad network of production and sales locations, Sartorius has established itself as a global player in the life science industry. The headquarters in Göttingen is the centre for research, development and management, which underlines the importance of this location for the company.
