Switzerland is internationally recognised for its innovative and efficient mechanical engineering companies in the field of conveyor and intralogistics technology. These companies help to automate storage and transport processes and increase industrial efficiency. Three of the leading companies in this field are Swisslog AG, Kardex Holding AG and Ferag AG.

1. Swisslog AG

Swisslog, based in Buchs/Aarau, is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of automated, data- and robot-controlled logistics solutions. With more than 3.000 employees at over 30 locations worldwide, the company offers innovative solutions for hospitals, warehouses and distribution centres. The company has its origins in the traditional Swiss company Sprecher + Schuh AG, founded in 1900, which was initially active in energy distribution. Later – following the takeover of several traditional industrial companies such as Translift, Digitron and OWL – the company focused on automation technology and developed automated storage and retrieval systems, conveyor systems and picking and palletising solutions.

Update 2024: In June 2024, Swisslog establishes a new regional headquarters for the Americas in Atlanta.

2. Kardex Holding AG

Kardex, headquartered in Zurich, is a leading global logistics partner with around 2.500 employees in over thirty countries, offering efficient solutions in a constantly growing market. The Group offers first-class automated products and standardised systems that are characterised by guaranteed reliability. The portfolio includes dynamic storage and retrieval systems, flexible warehouse solutions and order fulfilment systems. Although incoming orders declined in the 2023 financial year and were well below market expectations, the company was still able to generate significantly higher sales than in the previous year; profits even exploded. In this context, turnover rose by a quarter of a per cent to around 700 million euros.
